SIARDAILY, Jakarta – Pemerintah terus membangun bendungan maupun embung di berbagai wilayah. Salah satu tampungan air buatan yang dirasakan manfaatnya oleh masyarakat adalah Embung Wanakaya di Kabupaten Indramayu, Jawa Barat.
Pembangunan Embung Wanakaya dilaksanakan pada tahun anggaran 2020-2021 dengan biaya APBN sekitar Rp32,4 miliar. Embung berkapasitas tampung 101.800 meter kubik (m3) ini memberikan manfaat suplai air untuk lahan pertanian seluas 777 hektare dan sebagai tampungan cadangan air saat musim kemarau.
Menteri Pekerjaan Umum dan Perumahan Rakyat (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono mengatakan, penyediaan sarana dan prasarana air seperti bendungan dan embung diperuntukkan untuk ketahanan air dan kedaulatan pangan.
“Di beberapa daerah masih terdapat masyarakat yang kerap kesulitan memperoleh air bersih. Realitas seperti ini menjadi perhatian Kementerian PUPR, agar selalu berupaya menyediakan infrastruktur air, salah satunya melalui pembangunan embung,” kata Menteri Basuki.

Pembangunan Embung Wanakaya dilaksanakan dalam dua tahap. Tahap pertama pada 2020, meliputi pekerjaan tanah (galian, timbunan dan blanket), pembuatan intake, pembangunan rumah pompa, pemasangan pipa penyaluran, dan pekerjaan inlet dan outlet. Sedangkan tahap kedua pada 2021, meliputi pekerjaan revetment, jalan inspeksi, pemancangan minipile, dan pasangan batu.
Embung merupakan salah satu teknik pemanenan air yang sangat sesuai untuk daerah kering. Tampungan air embung berfungsi untuk mendistribusikan dan menjamin kontinuitas ketersediaan air untuk berbagai kebutuhan masyarakat, yaitu menyimpan air pada saat musim penghujan untuk dapat dimanfaatkan pada waktu diperlukan.
Kehadiran Embung Wanakaya diharapkan dapat memberikan solusi krisis air bagi para petani, sehingga mampu mendongkrak hasil tani dan meningkatkan perekonomian masyarakat.
Selain sebagai tampungan air untuk irigasi, Embung Wanakaya juga menjadi ruang publik sebagai destinasi wisata baru karena memiliki pemandangan indah berlatar belakang persawahan, bernuansa alam khas pedesaan dilengkapi dengan jogging track, Embung Wanakaya sempat viral di media sosial setelah pembangunannya rampung dan memiliki pesona tersendiri bagi wisatawan lokal.
